Beer and music
We had been looking forward to our latest trip to Sheffield for some time. Top of the list was
Greystones.
This new Thornbridge pub is quite a sight on steep Greystones road, it’s a substantial half timbered building with an impressive frontage.
Light and airy, family friendly pub
High ceilings and large bay windows, muted olive green paintwork contribute to a light, airy ambience. It’s a split level pub with york stone and wooden floors. The bulk of the seating is free standing wooden tables and chairs, but there’s also comfy round-the-wall soft leather seating. Decor is simple but tasteful and our overall impression was of cool tranquility.
Great range of Thornbridge cask and keg
Spoiled for choice by the range of Thornbridge beers I decided on a thirst quenching pint of Chiron for starters before moving on to the stronger stuff. The bar staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and helped us make some great choices. We tried Beadeca’s Well; its smoky maltiness contrasting wonderfully with the fruity, pine floral loveliness of Halcyon. Moving on, we sampled the Tzara Koln beer which we decided would be excellent with fish. And then we couldn’t resist coming back to the Halcyon. A beautiful name for such a beautiful beer!
There’s a simple bar menu, mostly sandwiches, soup and chips. I liked the sound of the pick and mix tasting boards. We didn’t try them as we were looking forward to a curry at the Aagrah, but they sound like great value for money – 4 or 6 items for £6 or £8 respectively.
Acclaimed venue and family centric events
The Greystones has achieved a reputation for hosting fantastic gigs and is considered by some to be the best venue in Sheffield. There’s music on most nights and the Backroom attracts top talent from home and abroad.
Using their location, slap bang in the centre of a community to their advantage, the Greytones focusses on events that will be popular to the community. It caters for an astonishing diversity of events, such as jewellery workshops, morris dancing, dog shows, psychic nights, and life drawing classes.
Open mic sessions, comedy and quiz nights are extremely popular.
