Rachel Matthews kindly gave me the chance to have a look round the New Zealand Arms yesterday to take a few photos.
The pub has been refurbished to a very high standard. I was very impressed by the beautiful wood panelling and sumptuously upholstered leather round the wall seating. Real fires, warm decor and soft lighting provide a cosy ambience.
A full range of Dancing Duck beer is available and there are 6 guest, 4 beers and a couple of ciders. On the day I arrived the guests were:
Blue Monkey – Evolution
Deuchars – IPA
Oakam – Bishop’s Farewell
Sarah Hughes – Dark Ruby
Gwynt y Ddraig – Happy Daze Cider
Moles Black Rat Cider
I’m going to leave writing up a proper review until the pub opens. For now, here are the photos I took. There’s still quite a bit of workmen’s clutter around, but you will get the overall impression of the quality of refurbishment.
Opening Date Confirmed
Twitter Photo – Handpumps: Bar
@NewZealandArms have tweeted: We open for business a week tomorrow, @dancingduckbeer will be £2.50 per pt. Not long to go, excitement is building!
So there you have it – opening date 15th March.
I’ll be going along on Tuesday 13th to take some photos – so with some luck I’ll get these up with my first impressions on the 14th.
Update 1st March
Will be stocking the 6 Dancing Duck Ales & 4 Guests Ales & 2 Traditional Ciders. All Dancing Duck Ales to be £2.50 a pint!!!
Latest update from NZ Arms – 28th Feb
“@curryandbeer not entirely sure yet! Plan a couple of real ciders probably 4 ducks and 2 guests. We’re going to do snacks, prob open 16th!”
Aiming to be ready to open by St Patrick’s day w/end (16th)
I believe that there’ll be jam nights: bongos and a piano. Nice Weather will be a regular. Well behaved dogs on leads welcome. Darts, pool table.
I’ll keep this updated as I find out any more. I’m aiming to take a trip over before the official opening for some photos.

Keep your eyes on this blog.
Apparently, The New Zealand Arms has been acquired by Dancing Duck and is currenly being refurbished. Hopefully opening soon, I’ll be calling in to get some photos of the refurb before the pub opens its doors to the public.
