Castle Rock – A Celebration

Thirty Five Wonderful Years

Castle Rock pubs and beers are prized for their consistent excellence. Honesty and integrity are values on which the company has prospered. Its aspirations are epitomised by their founder’s assertion: “I wanted a pub I’d like to drink in myself.” Now, with pubs dotted over a large area of the Midlands …

Horse and Jockey – Old Basford

Friendly locals’ Pub

One of the things that pleases me most about Castle Rock is the light hand they use in providing direction for their pubs. Every pub is different, and the only thing you can be absolutely sure about is that the beer will be great. The Horse and Jockey is a spendid example …

Vat and Fiddle Pub (Nottingham)

Beer drinker’s paradise The Vat and Fiddle is a wonderful, proper pub with great atmosphere. We regularly travel right across Nottingham to enjoy the serene ambience of this unique pub. It’s only a short stroll away from the train and bus stations so it’s a good contender for a pub crawl. I think I’d rate …

Lincolnshire Poacher – Nottingham

This Castle Rock pub is a firm favorite with CAMRA members and rightly so as it has won numerous awards. It’s part of the Mansfield Road beer trail so you’ll find that the pub fills to capacity as a group on a pub crawl drop in, only to empty again half an hour later. It’s usually packed to capacity in the evenings.

Bread and Bitter (Mapperley)

Superb Community Pub

On a bright sunny day in August we caught the bus to Mapperley to take a look at the Bread and Bitter; converted from a bakery by Castle Rock in 2008. A pub like this provides a super focal point for a community. It’s much more to do with a meeting place …

Newshouse – Nottingham

A place to have a chinwag

The older I get, the more I cherish the simple pleasures of life. Any opportunity to get away from the nightmares of the modern world, and the latest unfathomable newspeak is more than welcome. But where do you you go to find a place where you aren’t going …

Alexandra Hotel (Derby)

We popped in for a quick drink and a sandwich to break a train journey. The last time we dropped in, the place was looking rather sad so we were delighted to find that the Alex has recently been spruced up. It’s had a lick of paint and is looking grand as you’d expect for …
